7 (Super) Quick Takes: How life has already changed

1/       I use lifts, all by myself, up many many floors. Very happily. That is seriously an answer to prayer. I love how God had to send me to Hong Kong to overcome that one. 2/       We are ‘gooi-ing’ Cantonese. We know the four essentials which are helpful when riding in taxis or mini buses. Our repertoire includes our road name and number, how to tell the taxi/mini bus driver to stop, and 'thank you'. Look at us. 3/       We have lost Sierra and in her place we have an American daughter. She has an accent and doesn’t even realise it. That was quick. 4/       The most dangerous situation you can find yourself in, is meeting a wild boar on its morning walk, when your'e trying to catch a taxi to school. 5/       There just isn’t as much time in the day and there's no such thing as 'popping out quickly'. 7 Quick Takes: Fun Outings, Sore Feet and Content Hearts

Happy Christmas everyone! Here is a quick update on where we’re at and how we’re feeling. 1/ We found a home! After viewing about twenty apartments and many, many hours spent online late into the night, trawling Spacious (the local rental website), we have signed and confirmed the place that we get to call home for the next season and we move in on Friday. Yay! Amazingly, it meets 99% of our wish list for a home in Hong Kong. We are so grateful for Gods care and provision and we are SO ready to make the space our new home.  Now just to fill it. Thank goodness Ikea is epic! I have always dreamed of walking through Ikea and pointing away at what I want. The reality didn’t play out quite as romantically as I imagined. Note to self: Do not take kids along next time. View from our new apartment 2/ We have walked ourselves silly. I really wish we had started tracking our steps on the day we arrived. It would be impressive. Hopefully it is counteracting all the food...

We have lived our first 24 hours in Hong Kong. Below is a quick snap shot of what has gone down. 1/ One step back. Before landing in Hong Kong we had to take off from Cape Town. We left having had two weeks of very special family time. From a week of pure relaxation, far too much food, beach walks and many competitive board games with the Murphy family, to three days of fun ‘country life’ in Constantia with my sis and her kiddie winks, followed by a weekend with my folks in our most favourite relax place, Hermanus.  It all ended with a Murphy-Pollock final meal, once again too much food, some laughs and some tears and then an airport send off. Yes, we were those people tearing all over the airport Mugg and Bean t able and doing the goodbye wave ten too many times as we made our way through the x-ray machines and around the corner, out of sight. It was so hard, but I loved the time we had together before we left and my heart is so full of love and gratitude for the...
